The Brief
The objective was to design premium yet sustainable packaging for the handcrafted NIFT momento gifted to important guests and visitors.
Since the momento itself was artisan-made and culturally valuable, the packaging needed to feel thoughtful, elegant, and aligned with NIFT’s identity while maintaining a sustainable approach.
The Design
I created two main packaging concepts, each with two design variations, centered around custom black-and-beige illustrations combined with the official NIFT seal.
The first concept explored repetitive organic leaf patterns inspired by traditional Indian motifs, creating a refined and heritage-driven visual language.
The second concept focused on the Bodhi leaf form, symbolizing knowledge, growth, and legacy—making it deeply relevant to an academic institution like NIFT.
Minimal color usage, strong contrast, and print-friendly execution helped keep the packaging premium while supporting sustainable production.
One final design was selected for implementation.
the takeaway
This project strengthened my understanding of institutional branding, packaging systems, and designing for real-world production constraints.
It taught me how illustration can elevate packaging beyond function—turning it into an experience that reflects value, respect, and identity.
